You don’t usually see this kind of charm and polish in the genre unless it has Mario’s name attached to it. Granted, Astro isn’t as acrobatic as our favorite Italian plumber. He has a simple move set consisting of a jump, a hover, and some punches. But Astro’s Playroom never feels dull for a second thanks to its unbounded creativity.
A second reference to the game is the “Adequate, Boy…” Trophy, awarded for shooting all the rabbits at the end of Mt. Motherboard level in GPU Jungle. Essentially, if Astro seems as though he is going to enter into a fall that will kill him, he will stop at the very edge. Players who make a bad jump at a bad time will find that it is perfectly possible for them to die from it. As such, if they are moving over a very narrow stretch of terrain, it might be best for them to stay ground-bound for the duration. After the credits are finished, you’ll be surprised with one last gift. You’ll receive the 4 final artifacts, which include the 3D Pulse Wireless Headset, HD Camera, DualSense Wireless Controller, and the PlayStation 5 and the trophy will unlock.
Players can use weapons, such as plunger arrows and a pellet gun which shoots coloured balls, to destroy objects and defeat enemies. Like other mascot platformers, you also need to collect things along the way, some of which are floating in plain sight while others require some minor effort to obtain. In terms of basic structure and mechanics, Astro’s Playroom is not surprising; it adheres closely to a comfortable formula. But that familiarity doesn’t drag the experience down, because the DualSense controller adds novelty in fun and surprising ways.

Astro’s Playroom Speed Running Scene Is Heating Up As Players Post Impressive Sprints Through Levels
Look at the extraordinary textures and details on the game’s many collectibles. While it may not be exactly a photorealistic game, it still benefits from the power of the PS5 in some pretty incredible ways. In motion, particularly when taken in concert with all of the features of the DualSense, it’s an experience unlike any we’ve had on consoles yet. The eponymous playroom is the brand new console that was just removed from its box.
It doesn’t stop at the collectibles; some bots pay tribute to past icons. You’ll see a bot holding a camera throughout the levels as they record their companions as fellow PlayStation characters. For example, you’ll see bots dressed up as Kratos and Atreus from God of War trying to row a boat.
I wish Astro’s latest adventure lasted longer but I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing more of the new PlayStation mascot in the future. Upon jumping into the Cooling Springs level, I didn’t have to play long before feeling just how next-gen this controller is. Walking on the sand in this level provides feedback in the controller that actually feels like you’re on sand. Later in the level you’ll be in a frog robot suit equipped with a spring on the bottom of it. By holding the R2 trigger down you’ll press that spring down to jump and as you are doing it you feel the resistance in the trigger.
